In our hyper productive society, wasting time is a huge concern. ‘Life is short’ makes us think of doing more instead of doing better.
Often, we treat ‘wasting time’ as a relative concept. It might be a waste of my time to watch tutorials on advanced knitting technique but hugely beneficial to a knitter. Our general outlook on common activities differs. Jogging isn’t a waste of time because it’s healthy, whereas watching Netflix is a waste of time because you’re being lazy.
I would argue that we waste time not by what we do but by not giving it our full attention.
You’re wasting your time if you’re doing anything whilst also having your phone in your hand.
You’re worrying about the future or the past as you do something in the present.
